Six Major Trends of 5G Networks in 2020
OVUM chief analyst Donlin Shen said at the 5G China conference that the Asia-Pacific region has a large number of 5G mobile users, North America mainly has an increase in fixed broadband users, China Mobile has better network coverage, and 4G network coverage. China’s 4G base stations account for a quarter of the world. Third, the 4G network coverage in the United States is far inferior to that of China. North American communications operators are more cautious in launching broadband, investing more in densely populated areas and less investment in sparsely populated areas. The same is true on 5G.
Now, everyone is concerned about higher speeds and more users, accounting for 33%, improving network operation efficiency and capacity accounting for 26.8%, new markets and new business development accounting for 10.9%, and the short-term 5G task is to change the current business experience. Attracting more customers and realizing the characteristics and functions of the 5G network itself will be when the 5G network matures in a few years. The 5G technology is complex, and the establishment of a 5G ecosystem will take a long time. Now it has just begun.
According to the forecast given by the 5G platform, on the basis of the foundation laid in 2019, large-scale 5G network construction will officially begin in 2020, mainly including China, the United States, South Korea, Japan and some European countries. Related trends include:
â‘ Large-scale construction of low-band FDD 5G NR, such as AT&T’s 850 MHz band 5G NR, and T-Mobile US’s 600 MHz band 5G NR;
â‘¡The mid-band 5G NR scale construction, such as China, Japan, etc.;
â‘¢The millimeter wave 5G network construction in the United States, South Korea, and Japan (including outdoor and indoor small stations);
â‘£Dynamic spectrum sharing (DSS) and carrier aggregation (CA) will be deployed on a large scale, such as Verizon, AT&T and some European operators;
⑤ Telecom operators in China, the United States, South Korea, and the Middle East will begin to upgrade to 5G SA;
â‘¥Global 5G roaming and multiple SIM cards will rise.
Domestic 5G technology research and development progress
At the beginning of 2016, China initiated 5G technology research trials by the IMT-2020 (5G) Promotion Group, and promoted the development of the 5G industry in stages. The first phase (key technology verification) test was completed in September 2016, the second phase (technical solution verification) test was completed in December 2017, and the third phase (system verification) test was launched in 2018. It seems that it has become 5G pre-commercial R&D and test Important basis.
Global 5G application implementation progress
Looking at the implementation of 5G applications, a survey conducted by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology shows that as of the end of September, 135 operators around the world have conducted or will conduct a total of 391 application trials, of which eMBB applications accounted for 57.8%, AR/VR, and high-definition video. Transmission and fixed wireless access are the three most tested applications.
Dell Oro made a brief summary of the development in 2019 in the “Top Ten 5G Tests in 2020” released on December 17th: 5G mobile broadband accelerated commercialization faster than expected, and 5G new air ports accounted for the first three quarters of the world in 2019 With a double-digit share of the overall wireless network market, the mid-band 5G Massive MIMO has recently seen a surge in shipments. The shipments and revenues of 5G millimeter wave new air interface equipment increased in the third quarter. The positive trend of the millimeter wave 5G new air interface market exceeded expected.
5G terminal advancement speeds up
Yao Jinye said that 5G has risen to the national development strategy and has received a very high degree of attention. On June 6, 2019, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued formal commercial licenses to 4 companies, making our country the first batch of 5G commercial countries. At the same time, the technical work of 5G terminals is synchronized. In other words, in the entire 5G commercial development, the development of 5G networks and the development of 5G terminals are completely parallel. On December 27, the latest report from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology showed that by the end of 2019, the number of 5G package users owned by the three major operators will reach 3 million.
